Famous Hollywood Costumes Part Three

Purple dress worn by Mae West as Peaches O’Day in Every Day’s a Holiday, 1937

Some of you may have already seen the results of the Debbie Reynolds costume auction on Saturday. The highest price achieved went unsurprisingly to Marilyn Monroe’s famous white ‘Seven Year Itch’ dress, which was sold for a whopping US$5.6 million. You can see all the winning bids here.

I previously posted photographs of the collection, and this is the last of the incredible images I had saved. Once again it is really hard to choose a favourite, but I think if I could have any of these I would make a left of centre choice and go for the portrait of 20s actress Marion Davies. The costumes themselves are all so stunning, but it would make me really sad not to be able to wear them, and you couldn’t have them out on display all the time either. The portrait I could at least hang on my wall to admire. I am glad the costumes will have all gone to people with enough money to properly take care of them.
